On a double slider both sashes glide horizontally, so there is no crank to turn and nothing swinging out toward a patio or walkway. The 1685 comes in 2-lite and 3-lite layouts, sized in quarter-inch steps to suit the opening you have.
Glass comes as a 3/4-inch dual-pane or a 7/8-inch triple-pane insulated unit, whichever suits the room.
Decorative mortise locks sit recessed in the sash, and dual-opposing locks pull everything tight when shut.
Three-lite units run from 46 3/4 to 117 9/16 inches wide, so a long opening can stay a single window.
Exterior paint runs from Cream and Silver to Forest Green and Black, with oak, cherry or white inside.

(210) 796-9574Yes, slider windows are a good choice for wide, short openings and for spots where a swinging sash would get in the way, such as beside a patio or walkway. Operation is simple, with sashes gliding sideways on rollers and few moving parts. Double sliders let both sashes move, which improves airflow and makes the glass easier to clean.
The main drawbacks of sliding windows are that only half the opening vents at a time and the bottom track can collect dirt, which makes the sash harder to slide if it is not cleaned. Their seals rely on brush or bulb weatherstripping rather than compression, so build quality and installation matter. Regular track cleaning prevents most problems.
Slider windows usually cost less than double-hung windows of a similar size because the sliding mechanism is simpler. Price still depends on size, frame material and glass package, so a large slider with upgraded Low-E glass can cost more than a small double hung. Comparing both styles with the same glass package shows the real difference for your openings.
A slider is better for openings that are wider than they are tall, while a double hung is better for taller openings and traditional exteriors. Sliders are easy to operate over a counter or from a seated position, and double hungs allow top-and-bottom ventilation. Many homes use both, matched to the shape of each opening and the way each room is used.
A double slider window is a horizontal sliding window in which both sashes move, rather than one fixed sash and one moving sash. Either side can open for ventilation, and many designs let the sashes lift out or tilt for cleaning from indoors. Our San Antonio team can measure your openings to see whether a double slider is the right fit.
